The one-stop information site for Naturism, Nudism or clothes-free opportunities in and around Scotland

Ardeer, North Ayrshire

Ardeer beach is on the SW Scottish mainland. This is an official beach.  The council put up new signs to that effect in 2015, but a local vandal removed them.  I know it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is about two miles long, so plenty of scope for nude walking. It is used by quite large numbers of naturists in good summer weather, and the local dog walking fraternity don't pay any attention - no need to hide. The water is not the cleanest in Scotland but is improving year on year. Access by car is over rough ground for the last couple of hundred yards, or you can just park further away and walk a bit more.

Directions

(see OS Landranger Sheet 70) From the A78 (Ayr - Largs) at Stevenston, take the the B752 at the roundabout - clearly signposted Ardeer. Soon after crossing over the railway there is another roundabout with exits for the Nobel Industrial Park and Ardeer village. In the village, take the first right and go right to the end. You'll see a church on the right; turn left there, then immediately right again. This takes you into the beach park. As you near the dunes you'll see a public convenience building (usually closed!) - follow the road curving left past the front of this building and then continue up the hill and round till you reach a headland ("the Point") where the road ends. You can see the naturist beach from here, and there are often cars parked there. You can either park and walk from there (about 10 minutes) or if your car has strong springs, turn on to the grass and follow the ruts till you come to a rough parking area at the end of the long beach. Screenshot of the google map route.
Most naturists go along as far as the first pile of rocks before stripping off, but you sometimes see naturist families nearer the car park than that. Basically however you can be nude anywhere on this huge expanse of beach. Some brave souls are even known to strip off at their car and walk away from it nude!

Just visited this beach after finding it on your site. I would never have known about it or found it otherwise. Many thanks. It is hard to find, so I thought I would give more accurate directions: From Stevenston station you are going along Station road towards the coast, over the railway crossing. Keep going along this road until it splits into a Y. You are taking the right fork, signposted "Beach point". This is Shore Road. Along here you can go two ways to different beaches. Follow the road to the left past the toilets (beige building) you can drive along here, although I wasn't sure at the time as it looked like a footpath. Park in the car park at the end of this road. Look at the beach over to the left, you will see a painting on the retaining wall. From this distance it looked like the letter "G" But it's actually a painting of Rabbie Burns. Walk along the beach past this sign, keep going another 10 minutes or so, you will then get to the nude beach. It's about 15 minute brisk walk from the car park. I went start of July 2004 Warm and sunny with about 5 - 6 people using the beach, One Woman. A bit windy, but away from the sea there are rocks and long grass to find a sheltered spot in. I didn't see much action apart from these sunbathers
